About Us

FitSteps was born from the sparkling world of Strictly Come Dancing, dreamed up by professional dancers Ian Waite and Natalie Lowe, alongside World Champion Swimmer Mark Foster. What started in 2013 as a lightbulb moment on the Strictly tour has grown into something truly special—a way for everyone to experience the magic of ballroom and Latin dance while getting fit and having fun!

When Natalie was partnered with Mark on tour, he quickly discovered just how powerful dance could be—not only for his fitness, but also for his energy, confidence, and overall mood. That “aha!” moment ignited the creation of FitSteps, blending the glitz of the dance floor with the benefits of a workout.

Fast forward over a decade, and FitSteps has inspired a nationwide dance-fitness revolution! With more than 2,000 instructors trained and thousands of people dancing (and smiling) their way through classes, FitSteps continues to bring joy, fitness, and a touch of SPARKLE to communities everywhere!

Natalie Lowe has captivated audiences worldwide with her incredible dancing and infectious energy. She toured the globe in the hit stage show Burn The Floor, performing in more than 17 cities under the direction of world-renowned choreographer Jason Gilkison. In 2004, she joined Australia’s No.1 TV show Dancing With The Stars, competing in five series, reaching four finals, and lifting the glitterball trophy in 2006 with AFL star Anthony Koutafedes. UK audiences fell in love with her on BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing, where she reached the final with Ricky Whittle and partnered stars like Scott Maslen, Audley Harrison, Michael Vaughan, and Peter Jones. More recently, Natalie returned to Dancing With The Stars in Australia, proving her sparkle on the dance floor is brighter than ever.

  • Ian Waite

Ian Waite is a familiar face to millions as one of the professional dancers on BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing. Having appeared in nearly every series and competing in six of them, Ian became a fan favourite thanks to his dazzling talent and charming personality. Off the show, he’s wowed audiences on stage, touring with fellow stars Vincent Simone, Oti Mabuse, and Natalie Lowe, as well as joining the all-star cast of The Legends Tour. His star power has continued to shine internationally too— in 2024, Ian and his partner Lisa McCune lifted the coveted Glitterball on Dancing With The Stars Australia, before returning once again in 2025 to compete on the dance floor all over again.

In 2008, he proudly carried the Union Jack as Team GB’s flag bearer at the Beijing Olympic Games, cementing his place as one of the nation’s sporting greats. Known for making waves in the pool, Mark surprised even himself when he fell in love with dance while working with Natalie and Ian on Strictly Come Dancing. What started as a challenge quickly turned into a passion, as he discovered how fun, uplifting, and fitness-boosting dance could be. Now, Mark brings his champion’s spirit and enthusiasm to FitSteps, proving you don’t have to be a dancer to reap the benefits of dance.

FitSteps Featured Class

Each month we like to highlight one of our wonderful instructors in our FitSteps Featured Class! This month we're featuring Jacquie Winchester from Hereford!

Jacquie has been a FitSteps instructor for 10 fabulous years!

"I currently teach 6 classes a week alongside my day job - three at a local health club and three in the community in two different venues. Four are Fitsteps, one Fitsteps Tone and one low impact class incorporating FAB and Chair. My class members are a mix of ages with the eldest being 87 and abilities range from former Ballroom/Latin teachers to those who have never danced a step in their lives before starting my classes. I enjoy choreographing routines and love that Fitsteps gives us the flexibility to mix and match steps from different releases. I often put one new step in a routine with others that my class members already know, especially if the new move is a little more complicated.  That adds interest for those who are more advanced whilst still providing familiarity to those who are newer.  My personal goal for each class I teach is that everyone enjoys themselves while they are there and leaves with a smile on their face, albeit a slightly sweaty one most of the time!"
